Answer: I INTRODUCTION The gross maltreatment of the Chagossians at the hands of the British did not shock me, nor did it even come as a surprise. Great Britain, or the ‘empire on which the sun never sets’, has a history of imperialistic expansion dating back to the 16th century, where mistreatment of native populations is nothing out of the ordinary. The forced relocation of the Chagossians was unfortunately not an isolated incident, as we saw during the Palestinian exodus of the 1950s, and close to my home in Canada, the Acadian Expulsion of the 1750s, with many other forced expulsions in between those events.
