Discuss the separation of powers in the UK constitution and consider whether the UK system is adequately designed to guard against the abuse of power.
Answer: This essay will look to examine the extent to which, there is an appropriate system to check and balance power in the UK to prevent excessive concentration of power and to which extent the separation of powers is a safeguard of this. Firstly the doctrine of the separation of powers is not a simple and easily recognizable concept. It’s quite the contrary in fact as the concept of separation of powers has created much political confusion in its definition, however, we must look at its personnel form. Loveland refers to the three branches of government, legislative, executive and judicial. In theory each branch is independent but hold similar amount of authority.
