Answer: In order to test the assertion that the ICTY and the ICTR have now addressed crimes of sexual violence towards women in armed conflict situations, it is essential firstly to consider how the IMT and the IMTFE originally dealt with sexual crimes. From this brief exploration it will then be necessary to critically discuss how international law has responded to rape towards women in Yugoslavia and Rwanda and how the ICTY and ICTR have responded and dealt with these crimes. Finally, it will be argued that the judgements from both these tribunals have significantly changed the position of women. During WW2 thousands of women were raped and thousands more were forced to enter brothels for Nazi troops .
